My participation in the HRM Workshop at the Asian Pacific Postal College
(APPC), Bangkok, from 22nd to 26th September 2025, reaffirmed a vital truth —
the success of the modern postal sector depends on how effectively we manage
our people. Human Resource Management today is not just an administrative
role but a strategic function that drives organizational growth. Employees must
be viewed as our most valuable asset, not as a cost.
A key learning was the importance of Talent Management—a planned
approach to attract, develop, and retain capable employees. It goes beyond hiring
to building a strong, future-ready workforce. Post Malaysia sets an inspiring
example through its merit-based, inclusive culture, resulting in 43% of its
leadership positions being held by women. This proves that when talent is
recognized across all segments, the organization as a whole benefits.
Another major takeaway was the link between employee well-being and
productivity. A healthy employee is a productive employee, while neglect of
health leads to stress, absenteeism, and attrition. A comprehensive wellness
approach should ensure safe workplaces, supportive work culture, personal
health support, and community engagement. The FIT app by Post Malaysia,
offering access to health coaches and psychologists, stood out as a model of
promoting well-being through technology.
Equally important is open and honest communication within the organization.
Constructive engagement with unions and staff associations as partners helps
manage change effectively. Learning from employee feedback, especially through
formal exit interviews as practiced by Post PNG, turns staff departures into
valuable opportunities for improvement. Overall, the workshop highlighted that
success in the postal sector rests on three pillars — strategic people planning,
employee wellness, and transparent communication. Together, these build a
motivated and future-ready workforce capable of driving organizational
excellence.
